Slipknot singer Corey Taylor recently turned up at the Los Angeles premiere of the new documentary, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, and made a startling revelation: that Ozzy wanted to join Slipknot. According to Blabbermouth, Taylor told Artisan News on the red carpet, "I was sitting in catering (at Ozzfest) with Sharon (Osbourne, Ozzy's wife/manager) and Jack (Osbourne, Ozzy's son and documentary producer) and all the kids. Ozzy came out and I was just like, 'Oh my God,' and he goes, 'Slipknot, I wanna be Number 10.' And I went, 'Anytime you want!'"
The members of Slipknot refer to themselves by numbers -- although the nine band members were numbered zero to eight, so technically Ozzy would be "Number Nine."
We don't think he seriously wanted to join the band, however -- he was just being nice to a fellow musician.
Taylor added about the encounter, "He gave me a huge hug and I was like 'Wow,' you know. It's just one of things that makes you fortunate to meet the people you looked up to and have every expectation be exactly what is was."
Slipknot has been down one "number" since the death in May 2010 of bassist Paul Gray.
The band toured Europe this past summer and will embark on a North American trek next year.
God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, which screened theatrically on two dates last month, will come out on DVD and Blu-ray on November 15th.
The full track listing for the collaborative album by Metallica and Lou Reed, called Lulu, has been released, and it features a song called "Junior Dad" that clocks in at a super-sized 19 minutes and 28 seconds. Two other tracks, "Cheat On Me" and "Dragon," are over 11 minutes apiece, while several other songs are more than six, seven and eight minutes in length. The album's shortest cut, opening number "Brandenburg Gate," is a relatively paltry four minutes and 19 seconds.
"Junior Dad" is the song whose lyrics made Metallica guitarists James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett cry, as reported last month.
The cover art for the record has also been unveiled. It features a mannequin with no arms or legs and the title written across the cover in what looks like blood.
Lulu will arrive on October 31st worldwide and November 1st in North America. The set is based around a series of songs that Reed had composed for a theater piece based on The Lulu Plays, written between 1895 and 1904 by German playwright Frank Wedekind.
Jane's Addiction has forged yet another corporate partnership, this time with financial giant Citibank, to launch the band's fourth studio album, The Great Escape Artist. Citibank is presenting a series of tour dates by the band, starting with shows on September 24th and 25th at the Metro in Chicago. Those will be followed by two-night stands in Los Angeles and New York in October. The album itself has had its release date pushed back a second time. Originally slated for a September 27th arrival, it was moved to October 4th and will now come out October 18th.
It was at the Metro on November 23rd and 25th, 1988 that Jane's Addiction launched its breakthrough album, Nothing's Shocking.
The new disc is the band's first in eight years and features a more layered, electronic sound than previous efforts. Guitarist Dave Navarro told us he's not worried about pulling off the new material live: "We play what we can play, and we'll see how it goes. You know, it is what it is. In the old days on the old records, I had, you know, maybe 10 tracks of guitars per song, and live I just play the ones I can. You know, especially with technology today and being able to run, like, samples of keyboards and stuff without actually having to have a player onstage, it helps us to be able to fill out the sound sometimes."
Fans who have Citibank credit cards will have special pre-sale access to tickets for all six shows on the mini-tour via www.citiprivatepass.com.
The first single from The Great Escape Artist, "Irresistible Force," is a Top 15 hit at Modern Rock radio.
