Patrick Swayze passed away last night after his 20 month fight against pancreatic cancer. I basically grew up watching this guy in all sorts of great movies so here are my top 5.... and contrary to popular belief (aka Fin & Gamble) Dirty Dancing nor Ghost is in here jerks! :)
5. The Outsiders - Swayze played Darrel "Darry" Curtis in this one alongside tons of future star actors like Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, C Thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez and super milf Diane Lane. We had to read this book and watch the movie in high school,,, didn't finish the book but the movie was awesome
4. Point Break - Swayze played Bohdi who was a zen surf master and mastermind behind the Ex-Presidents robberies. Keanu Reeves, Gary Busey and Lori Petty. Still one of my favorite lines is "Utah... bring me two!" from Busey's character Pappas.
3. Red Dawn - I remember watching this when I was like 7 years old and it was one of the coolest movies I'd ever seen! High school kids waging their own war on Russian and Central American invaders in the mountains and in their town! What kid didn't want to do that! Swayze was the older brother Jed Eckert who was the leader of the gang of kids who were fighting back aka The Wolverines (taken from their high school mascot name). The movie has a bunch of future stars in it as well with Charlie Sheen, C Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson & Jennifer Grey also co-starring. Favorite line is at the end "It's hard being brothers"
2. Youngblood - Although Swayze isn't the main character this movie was pretty cool and one of my favorite sports movies. Rob Lowe plays Dean Youngblood who the movie revolves around, but Swayze is the coolest dude in the flick playing Derrick Sutton the captain and top player the Hamilton Mustangs, who Youngblood plays for. The scene where they are getting Youngblood smashed on tequila is hilarious, the hockey scenes were cool plus if the fight at the end of the movie doesn't get you pumped there is no hope for you
1. Roadhouse - Swayze plays Dalton who is this bad ass bouncer who travels from town to town working at crappy bars cleaning them up helping to transform them into steady businesses. He ends up in a Jasper, MO and all hell breaks loose as he fights for the citizens of the town against Brad Wesley. I few solid T&A scenes but nothing is cooler than when Dalton rips out the neck of Jimmy with his bare hands!!! This movie was the shit!
R.I.P. Patrick Swayze (1951-2009)
