Disturbed’s ‘Decade of Disturbed‘ documentary will be included as a bonus DVD with their new album, ‘Asylum‘. The album is due out on August 31st.
The Foo Fighters will begin work on a new album with producer Butch Vig (Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana) in September. No word on a possible release date.
Details about the upcoming Kurt Cobain biopic remain scant, but the film's director promises, "It'll be raw and chaotic, which is what Cobain's life was like." Writer-director Oren Moverman tells the U.K.'s Guardian, "People know the shortcut version -- he took a lot of heroin, wrote 'Smells Like Teen Spirit,' became the biggest rock star in the world and killed himself. Those known things about him are to me the least interesting."
The late Nirvana singer's widow, Courtney Love, is involved in the making of the film, serving as executive producer. Although rumors have circulated, there's still no word on who will play Cobain. According to Spin.com, Love's manager says the Hole singer "likes Scarlett Johanssen as an actress and as a person, so it wouldn't surprise me if she wanted her to play her."
The script is written for the film, which is partially based on the biography Heavier Than Heaven by Charles R. Cross
Both Korn and Hellyeah's new albums made Top 10 chart debuts this week. According to Billboard.com, Korn III -- Remember Who You Are, opened at Number Two with 63,000 copies, marking the band's tenth Top 10 release. The group's most recent effirt, 2007's Untitled, debuted and peaked at Number Two with 123,000 sold in its first week.
Korn, meanwhile, is not only busy promoting its new album, but the members have also been outspoken about the Gulf oil spill while on tour this summer. Korn singer Jonathan Davis and the band are boycotting all BP products, and have encouraged other acts to follow suit, including Godsmack, Rob Zombie, Lady Gaga, Rise Against, Backstreet Boys, Megadeth, Creed, Filter and Hellyeah.
Davis tells us why Korn decided to boycott the oil giant: "It wasn't nothing that was political in any way. For us, seeing the impact that it had on the environment down there -- more than that, the people's lives. I mean, yeah, you can pay them some money but what about their livelihood for the rest of their lives? It's changed forever down there. So I was watching TV, watching this going on, and I just thought to myself, 'Hey, I'm not gonna buy no more BP products.' Told my manager that, and then I said, 'Hey, let's do a boycott and see if other bands would want to get involved."
Korn's Mayhem Festival pulls into Camden, New Jersey tomorrow (Friday, July 23rd).
In other news, Stampede, the second album from rock super group Hellyeah, opened at Number Eight with 28,000 copies sold. The band's first release debuted at Number Nine back in 2007. The act consists of Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett -- both of Mudvayne, Vinnie Paul of Pantera, Tom Maxwell from Knives Out! and Bob Zilla of Damageplan.
