Linkin Park hits #1.... Godsmack/FFDP/Drowning Pool going on tour... Papa Roach/Skillet/Trapt/My Darkest Days announce tour dates

Linkin Park has earned its ninth Number One single on Billboard's Alternative radio chart with "The Catalyst," the first track sent out from the band's upcoming album A Thousand Suns. The tune reached the top of Billboard's chart after just three weeks, tying the band record set by the last Linkin Park single, 2009's "New Divide."

The band is now tied with Green Day for the second most Number One tracks in the chart's 22-year history. The Red Hot Chili Peppers still lead with 11 chart-toppers, while U2, Foo Fighters and R.E.M. trail with eight, seven and six respectively.

  • The music video for "The Catalyst," will receive its world broadcast premiere on Thursday (August 26th) on MTV and VH1 networks around the globe, after premiering online at midnight.
  • Linkin Park DJ Joseph Hahn directed the video for "The Catalyst."
  • A Thousand Suns is due out on September 14th.

Godsmack has begun announcing dates for its upcoming fall North American tour with Five Finger Death Punch and Drowning Pool, with six dates in early October unveiled so far. This will be Godsmack's first full trek in support of its new album, The Oracle. The band is known for its large-scale stage shows and drummer Shannon Larkin told us the band's got some major plans this time: ["It's gonna be different. Very very cool video with cool video screens that -- I can say this, they're, you know, moving video screens. That's about all I can really give away a little. But it's gonna be an intense thing. We already got the opening number and a couple of gags throughout the show to keep it exciting."] SOUNDCUE (:18 OC: . . . keep it exciting.)

  • The Oracle, Godsmack's fifth album, debuted at Number One on the Billboard album chart earlier this year and has sold 336,000 copies since coming out.
  • Five Finger Death Punch is supporting its second album, War Is The Answer, and Top Five cover of the rock classic "Bad Company," while Drowning Pool is out behind its self-titled fourth record.
  • More dates and ticket info will be coming in the weeks ahead.
  • Godsmack frontman Sully Erna is also scheduled to bring out his debut solo album, titled Avalon, next month.

Papa Roach has unveiled the details of a fall U.S. tour with Skillet that will begin on October 1st in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, winding down on the 20th of that month in Oklahoma City. Trapt and My Darkest Days will also appear on the bill. Before that, Papa Roach will play some gigs on its own and hit some festivals as the band rolls out its new half-studio/half-concert release, Time For Annihilation...On The Record And On The Road.

Frontman Jacoby Shaddix told Billboard.com that the new album "connects all the dots. It's essentially an EP plus a live album, so it's like the best of both worlds."

Shaddix revealed that when the band's label suggested adding studio cuts to the nine live tracks already planned for the album, the group wanted to record fresh music instead of digging out previously existing, unreleased songs.

The singer said that with the album's five new tunes, "We wanted to go with a little bit more of a modern sound. On the last couple records we really discovered the rock 'n' roll band within Papa Roach, and this time around we . . . started f***ing around with sequencing and loops and beats and stuff like that. I think it's just a breath of fresh air for us."

Time For Annihilation is due out next Tuesday (August 31st). The first single, "Kick In The Teeth," is Number Nine on the Active Rock chart.
