Scott Weiland DENIES lip synching at shows... Disturbed and Papa Roach release new albums

Disturbed releases its fifth studio album on Tuesday (August 31st), titled Asylum. As with its previous effort, 2008's Indestructible, the band produced the disc itself and recorded in its hometown of Chicago. Disturbed frontman David Draiman was going through a rough personal patch while writing the record, but told us that he doesn't necessarily need personal problems to inspire his songs: "I think that there's enough going on in the world that even if in my own personal life things were harmonious, that there's plenty to draw anger from and inspiration from, from that perspective. I mean, if you turn on the news any given day of the week, there's enough subject matter on there where if you really pay attention to things and care enough about things, for you to take issue with, and for you to really get pissed off about."

Draiman was dealing with relationship problems, the deaths of two pets and a move from Chicago to Austin, Texas while writing the lyrics for Asylum.

Although there are some personal songs on the record, it also deals with subjects like environmental catastrophe on the single "Another Way To Die" and the Holocaust on "Never Again."

The band's three previous albums have all debuted at Number One on the Billboard album chart, while all four of the group's studio efforts have sold more than a million copies each.

Disturbed is currently co-headlining the Uproar Festival tour with Avenged Sevenfold. The trek, which also features Stone Sour, Hellyeah and others, stops Tuesday night in Bristow, Virginia.

Papa Roach releases its new half-studio/half-live album, Time For Annihilation...On The Road and On The Record, on Tuesday (August 31st). The band went into the studio earlier this year to record five brand new songs for the set, but frontman Jacoby Shaddix admitted to us that he was having problems staying sober at the time: ["I was kind of out of my mind, partying and drinking and, you know, carrying on like I was for a minute and lost my confidence as a writer and as a musician for a minute, and then halfway through, cleaned my act up. I think it was more pressure that was tripping me out, you know, I've never really felt like that too much before, but then cleaned my act up and then laid down some rad vocals that I'm really proud of"

  • Shaddix had been clean and sober for at least five years before this, and recently celebrated his fifth month being sober again.
  • The first single from Time For Annihilation... is called "Kick In The Teeth."
  • Time For Annihilation is Papa Roach's first release on Eleven Seven Music, after parting ways with Interscope/Geffen Records earlier this year.
  • The band will visit the Los Angeles Mission on Tuesday to serve meals to the homeless as part of the band's continuing partnership with the WhyHunger organization.
  • Papa Roach will hit the road for a fall U.S. tour with Skillet beginning on October 1st in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

 

 

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has responded to Internet rumors that he has been either lip-synching or using backing vocal tracks during the band's concerts. The allegations arose after video surfaced of Weiland falling off the stage at a concert last Wednesday (August 25th) in Cincinnati, during which it appeared that his vocals never wavered despite the fact that he fell headfirst and seemed to land heavily.

At STP's August 28th gig in Pittsburgh, Weiland addressed the rumors onstage, saying, "I would like to dispel a rumor swirling its way around the Interwebs that I am not singing these songs that I wrote. There has never been a time in the 25-plus years that I have been singing with these guys or a combination of these guys or with other musicians that I have not sang. So whoever started that bulls*** claim, like so many other bulls*** claims, which is the problem with modern technology . . . We are a rock and roll band, (and) rock and roll bands perform live."

Stone Temple Pilots is touring behind its self-titled sixth studio album, which arrived earlier this year.

Weiland has been known for erratic behavior onstage, but this is the first time that he has ever been accused of not singing live
